This unit is destined for Intermediate High/Advanced Low learners is based on the essential question: How do the stories we tell about ourselves and others shape our identities?
The unit objectives and goals are that students will be able to:

Define and provide examples of the following terms: un récit, un discours dominant, un contre-récit

Identify national symbols in Côte d’Ivoire, compare them to U.S. national symbols and explain their relationship to cultural values.

Investigate the interplay of ethnic and national identity in Ivorian society.

Discuss the influence of language on identity among Ivorians.

Interpret traditional and contemporary literary adaptations of La Reine Pokou, a foundational myth of the Baoulé people in Côte d’Ivoire.
