Internet Activity: Finding a Hotel in Québec City
Click here for Internet Activity Sheet.
You’ve heard so much about Québec’s winter carnival that you’ve decided to go there for a weekend! When you arrive, you will need to find a hotel in or near the city so that you will not be far from all the activities!
To help you get started, use the following Web site and follow the directions.
Using a Web browser of your choice, type in the following address in the URL box at the top of your screen.
The title page for this site will be the same as the Web site address.
Double click on “Information touristique.”
Scroll down to hébergement (hébergement means “lodging”) and double click.
(If you scroll down this page, you will find eight different types of accommodations available.)
At this point, you may want to double click on “English version of this page” so that you can begin your search in a more comfortable manner. (If you want to be challenged, stick with the French!)
After the page loads, go to the second paragraph, double click on "2600 establishments" and a page entitled “Accommodation Listing” will appear.
Leave “Accommodation name” blank.
For “Tourism region,” choose “Québec area” from the drop down menu.
For "Accommodation Type,” check “Average size” and for “Rating,” check “3 stars.”
Leave “Activities” and “Services” blank since you don’t want to severely limit your options!
For “Amenities,” check Air Conditioning, Non-smoking, Private bathroom, and TV.
Leave the next two categories blank, go to the bottom, and double click on “Search.”
At this point, you should have a list of hotels on your screen.
Choose one of the hotels, take your activity sheet, and answer the questions!
NOTE: Once you have completed this directed activity, try to find a hotel on your own! Follow the instructions one more time, choose different possibilities from the list of options, and attempt to do the entire exercise using the French version of the Web site! Because you have done it once in English, the format should be familiar to you and you can concentrate more on the language portion of the exercise.
Ask your teacher for another activity sheet and you’re on your way!
Bonne chance!
EXTRA CREDIT: Create three new questions that could be added to this Internet activity, and your suggestions may be used in a revised edition of this worksheet!
