Subject: Recyclable copies of NOUVEAU BLEU -- 2004 EDITION
French teachers at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, are hoping to locate copies of Valette and Valette’s NOUVEAU BLEU 2004 edition. We just adopted the series this year and are not in a position to adopt a new series or switch to the 2007 edition, which is forthcoming. Our bookseller, MBS, has advised us that the 2004 edition is no longer available. If you should have any copies of the 2004 edition that you would like to dispose of, please let me know. We would be interested in any ancillary materials as well. Of course, we would want to pay postage and handling. Please contact me at:

I'm an English teacher from France and would like to start an exchange programme with a high school, preferably in New England. So far, we've been satisfactorily running an exchange programme with high schools in Indiana and Missouri. My students are in 11th grade and aged 17. The principle is each group of students visiting the other group, after first contacts by email and/or videoconferencing. Can you help me or forward my request? Looking forward to hearing from you.
I'm going to teach French 4 next year (not AP) and would like the name of an
interesting Anthology to use with the kids. I'd like it to have glossed
vocabulary in the margins, comprehension questions after each story, maybe a
grammar review with each lesson. What title would you/and my colleagues on
Babillard recommend?
Merci bien,
Steve Covey

Bonjour
In response to demand from AP French students and teachers, eLycée has created and published an online AP French Language practice test. The test was developed using original content and materiel - based on the College Board’s tests - and the online test environment closely resembles the real thing.
The test is free to complete – there is no charge.
Students may complete the practice test – section by section – as many times as they wish. There is no charge for this.
Our Director of Studies receives and grades all the tests; if students and/or teachers would like to receive a complete language assessment and AP study plan following a completed test, we ask a nominal administration fee of $35 to cover grading and reporting.
If teachers and/or students wish to take their AP French Language preparation further with eLycée, we offer a number of classes and workshops.
If you have any questions, or you would like to speak directly to our Director of Studies, please let me know; I would be happy to help.
Kind regards
Julian Hirst

This interesting site helps you practice your French by listening to modern French music. I loved the site especially because I am someone who has a hard time understanding songs in any language. This site allows you to see the words as they are being sung and also gives you pictures to help you figure out meanings of words that you might not know. You can also click on a word and the definition is given to you. There are several different levels that you can advance to and each time you write a response, you are able to verify your answer immediately. You may listen to the song segment as many times as you like. The site is a great way to listen to and understand contemporary French music.

Subject: call for articles in French Women's Studies
“RIVALRY, COOPERATION, CONSPIRACY, AND PATRONAGE: STUDIES IN THE DYNAMICS OF WOMEN’S INTERACTION IN FRENCH LITERATURE AND CULTURE”
CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR A SPECIAL ISSUE OF WOMEN IN FRENCH STUDIES
Co-Editors: Julia Simms Holderness and Laurence M. Porter
Dept. of French, Classics, & Italian – Michigan State University
“RIVALRY, COOPERATION, CONSPIRACY, AND PATRONAGE: STUDIES IN THE DYNAMICS OF WOMEN’S INTERACTION IN FRENCH LITERATURE AND CULTURE”
How do women collaborate, and how do they compete? These questions have profound implications for our understanding of society; and yet, literary and cultural studies have tended to seek answers in only two spheres—the familial and the erotic. We invite reflections on historical or fictional collaborations and competition among women in other areas such as education, the workplace, professional life, politics, salons, courts, or convents. Analyses of “underground” collaboration (or competition) are of particular interest to us. Contributors may focus on any period of French or Francophone literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present. Critical perspectives from extra-literary fields such as sociology, anthropology, and social psychology are welcome. Publication is planned for 2010.
Two hard copies of your completed article in either French or English, from approximately 4,000 to 6,500 words, accompanied by a précis (a summary in the form of one complete sentence per paragraph in your text) and by an electronic copy on PC-compatible diskette, should reach Laurence M. Porter, 723 Collingwood Drive, East Lansing, MI, 48823-3416, by September 30, 2008. You must have already joined Women in French for your article to be considered. Both editors will evaluate all submissions.
Preliminary inquiries are welcome: address them simultaneously to dameraison@yahoo.com and to porter@msu.edu
Format: Follow the MLA Style Manual, except for modifications required in French texts (quotation marks, spacing, ellipses). Number all pages consecutively. All NOTES must be endnotes, beginning on a separate page. Avoid “ibid” and “op. cit.” notes. Finally, list WORKS CITED on a final, separate page. On each page after the first, provide a HEADER with your last name and a short title for your essay. All materials must be double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font.
A few examples of possible avenues of inquiry:
Ø Artistic patronage at the courts of Aliénor d’Aquitaine, Marie de Champagne, Marguerite de Navarre.
Ø Political activism (e.g., Assia Djebar’s “L’Amour, la fantasia” or Ousmane Sembene’s “Les Bouts de Bois de Dieu”)
Ø The salon (e.g., The Hôtel de Rambouillet, Mme de Staël, Natalie Barney, Paulette Nardal)
Ø Gynotopias (e.g. Christine de Pizan’s “Cité des dames,” Monique Wittig’s “Les Guérillères”)
Ø Underground communities (e.g. the anonymous Évangiles des Quenouilles, Marguerite Yourcenar’s retelling of Médée, 1996)
Thank you, L Porter

Subject: French in Action
Hello!
I am on Long island in a private school and wanted to show some episodes of
French in Action to my classes via
Learner.org. Unfortunately, they had to shut down the area's wireless
capability so that plan is not viable. Plan B is to show the DVDs, however, I
do not want to spend the $ for the set (own money) if it is not helpful. Is
there anyone out there willing to loan a few episodes and I will gladly pay for
postage? I will send details on which episodes, but I am wrestling with the
subjunctive in one class, another is dealing with relative pronouns Qui and Que.
Merci mille fois,
Kim Thatcher
